Emmy and the Incredible Shrinking Rat - by Lynne Jonell

A rat who can talk, a girl whose parents seem to have forgotten she exists, a beautiful but nasty nanny with a curious cane and an unhealthy interest in health food, and a very tiny soccer player.  These elements combine with interesting illustrations and a quick and mysterious plot to create an enjoyable adventure.  If you love rats, or brave girls, or perhaps supernatural powers, you may want to read this book.
Emmy is a lonely girl, who nobody pays much attention to.  When she becomes friends with her classroom pet, things begin to get interesting, and before long she's in a headlong race to save her friends, her family, and herself, before it's too late.  This makes a good class read-aloud, so good in fact that it inspired me to write a song, posted below.  Enjoy! (I make no claims to be a good singer or guitar player, simply a brave one.)

Wow now I get to see Mr K in person! You are brave to sing on the internet!!! Your own composition too - well done. And good timing with this book I actually recommended it to a Grade 4 teacher yesterday to take home and read over the summer break - yes it is our Summer holidays here in Australia. I loved Emmy! And amazing I am actually ahead of you Mr K I reviewed this one a while back...

Very good! Clap clap clap! Now I really want to learn to play the guitar. What an awesome skill for a teacher to have. Maybe you should sing all of your book reviews!

In reply to your comment on Museum of Thieves on my blog :
It is great the way our two blogs are now working together - you read something and I get a copy and now I read something and you get a copy - like Museum of Thieves. To answer your question I don't have those video skills I find them on youtube.
Keep up the good work with your blog. You do have video and MUSIC skills!! I have a huge box of holiday reading so stay tuned. It is Summer here.

What fun! Makes me want to read our copy, which hasn't been checked out since it came in last year.
